I recently staged a home for a real estate company to help sell a property. The home had the basics right: neutral colored walls and clean tiled floors. And there was not a lot of clutter. But that is where the plusses stopped. Fussy curtains at the windows looked out of place in the living room with the more rustic furniture. The furniture was clustered together in one corner of the room making the room appear heavy at that end. The fireplace was not taken advantage of, and there was inadequate lighting.
I started the makeover by rearranging the furniture to enhance the generous size of the room. Setting the lovesesat at an angle gave the room a more energized feeling and permitted the fireplace to become a part of the room. A table placed behind the loveseat was a great place for accessories. Lamps placed on either side of the sofa provided ambient and task lighting. The fussy curtains were replaced with simple textured panels in a smoky turquoise color. A large framed picture replaced the mirror that looked out of place above the sofa. Two armchairs were brought in for additional seating when needed or to pull up to the fireplace on cool evenings. Accent pillows in turquoise and beige, green plants and an area rug completed the look.
